Northern India Amateur Golf Championship, Chandigarh Day 2

30th March, Chandigarh: Honey Baisoya of Delhi who started the day with level par score, returned with a card of one-under 71 for the total of 143 to take the lead on day two of Northern India Amateur Golf Championship at Chandigarh Golf Club, Chandigarh. Local lad Abhijit Chadha who was leading the charge yesterday, shot one-over 73 for the total of 144 to finish the round in second position while Ashbeer Singh Saini of Kapurthala managed to get the third place with three-under for a total of 146. The 14-year-old Baisoya who started playing on the amateur circuit two years ago made some remarkable birdies on 5th, 9th and 13th holes and after playing two consecutive holes without any harm, he carded bogeys on 10th and 16th holes. Abhijit Chadha dropped a shot just in the beginning on the very 1st hole which did not allow him to play up to the mark after that while Ashbeer Singh Saini played a flawless round with four birdies in the front nine and a single birdie on 12th hole. Honey Baisoya who finished 3rd in NCR Cup at Delhi Golf Club this year said, “I am feeling very happy with the progress I have made. Before starting today’s round I came to the golf course with the mindset that I have to play under-par and I am glad that I managed to hit couple of good birdies today to take the lead. It would be my biggest achievement of this year if I win this tournament.” 36 golfers have made the cut with the score of 160. Tough competition is expected with the course playing a bit tricky in windy conditions, as tournament move into last two days.
