22nd edition Limca Book of Records

Limca Book of Records Celebrates Twenty Two Glorious Years, Felicitates Fifteen Sports Achievers as “People of the Year” 2011~ Jwala Gutta, CWG Badminton Women’s Doubles Gold Medalist; Vijender Singh, CWG Gold Medalist in Boxing; Somdev Devvarman, CWG & Asian Games Gold Medalist -Tennis; Sushil Kumar, CWG Gold Medalist Wrestling; among those felicitated~ The 22nd edition of the record book was launched at a special event by Shri Ajay Maken, Hon’ble Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India along with Mr. Atul Singh, President & CEO Coca-Cola India & South West Asia and Mrs. Vijaya Ghose, Editor, Limca Book of Records. These dignitaries unveiled a “collage portrait” of LBR 2011 created by Manu Kallikad of Mallapuram district in Kerala. He is a Limca Book Record holder and collects relevant articles and pictures to create collage portraits. The LBR “collage portrait” was created without the use of scissors or cutter, paint or brush, much like all his collage portraits. Speaking at the function, Ajay Maken, Honorable Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, said, “I would like to congratulate Limca Book of Records for completing 22 glorious years. My compliments to them for acknowledging and awarding the performances of the sportspersons. These athletes are the true ‘People of the Year’ and they have made us proud as a nation. India’s performance in the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games 2010 was at its best since the Games’ inception, with 38 Gold medals in CWG and a record 14 Gold medals in the Asian Games. These achievers have won laurels for the country. Truly there is a sense of accomplishment when we think of their achievements in both the mega sporting events. It is my pleasure to felicitate the sports stars for their outstanding performances in the arena of sports.” As part of the launch of the 22nd edition of Limca Book of Records, a special performance by the famous ventriloquist, R Indushree from Bangalore, Karnataka — featured in several editions of the Limca Book of Records with the most recent one being the 2011 edition for performing live on Zee Kannada with Dinku, her favorite dummy, live for the 67 weeks - was organized. According to Atul Singh, President & CEO Coca-Cola India and South West Asia, “Limca Book of Records (LBR) has always been a platform for Indians, unknown, unheard and unsung, to showcase their special talents. In the 22nd edition of LBR, we decided to salute the outstanding performances of our Indian Athletes during Commonwealth Games and Asian Games 2010. This latest Sports Achievers Special acknowledges the significant contribution of 15 promising Indian athletes by felicitating them as ‘People of the Year’ 2011. The remarkable achievements by the Indian sportspersons and other record holders in the latest edition reveal the grandeur of 22 glorious years of Limca Book of Records”. The 22nd avatar of Limca Book of Records incorporates achievements across 20 buzzing fields like Human endeavor, Sports, Medical Science, Government, Painting etc.
