West Bengal to be named Paschim Banga


The new name of the West Bengal state will be Paschim Banga. A unanimous resolution to this effect was adopted at an all-party meeting chaired by the Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata this afternoon. The same name will be used in English also. Later, Ms Banerjee said that the proposal will be sent to the Center for its approval after ratifying it by the state assembly.

Later, briefing newspersons, the State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Partho Chattarjee said that the government has planned to bifurcate the West Midnapur, Jalpaiguri, North 24 Pargana and Burdwan district. An all party meeting will be held in these districts to take opinions on bifurcation and it will be placed later in the state level all -party meeting for the final decision.
