People condemn Anna’s arrest, thousands court arrest
Anna
Hazare’s unlawful arrest today sparked massive outrage across the
country and widespread protests were witnessed. As soon as news of
Anna’s arrest spread, people in Delhi started gathering at Rajghat and
Jai Prakash Naryan Park to court arrest as section 144 was imposed on
both the venues. Former IPS officer Kiran Bedi and Former Law Minister
Shanti Bhushan courted arrest at Rajghat. Thousands of other supporters
joined in to court arrest.
Initially
all were taken to Chhatrasal stadium, more than 60 people sat on Anshan
with in the stadium where over 5,000 people detained. Over 20, 000
people gathered outside the stadium. As more and more people poured in
to court arrest, Delhi Police had to look for another venue to
accommodate the arrested people. Over 5,000 people were kept at Rajeev
Gandhi Stadium in Bawana. Even women and children defied the section 144
to court arrest with. University students joined in thousands to
support Anna Hazare. People had to face lot of inconvenience because
there were no civic amenities at the Chhatrasal stadium. People had to
stay on without food and water for very long hours. When India Against
Corruption volunteers tried to send in food inside the Chhtarsal stadium
the authorities did not allow
them.

people were arrested and kept in Lahori Gate Police station. To express
their support to Anna Hazare South- Extension and Karol Bagh market
associations have decided to to close their market from 7.45 pm – 9:00
pm everyday till Anna is released. Many auto rickshaw associations of Delhi will stay off-roads on 17th in support of Anna’s call – Contact: 9911155555 Rakesh Aggarwal. All District Bar Associations have decided to do strike on 17th August.
