Record foodgrains output of 235.88 mn tonnes in 2010-11: Pawar

Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar announced on Wednesday "The third advance estimate figures are available with me, which show an all-time record production of food grains at 235.88 million tons.Wheat at 84.27 million tons and pulses at 17.29 million tons are also the highest recorded production ever," Pawar said.The earlier record of 234.47 million tons was achieved in the 2008-09 crop year. The earlier record of 80.8 million tons of wheat production was achieved in 2009-10. The previous pulses production record was 14.91 million tons in the 2003-04 crop year.India's output of food grains comprises wheat, rice, pulses and coarse cereals. India's rice production is pegged at 94.11 million tons in the 2010-11 crop year (July-June) as against 89.09 million tons in the previous year.Coarse cereals production amounted to 40.21 million tons in the 2010-11 crop year as against 33.55 million tons in the previous year.
