India monitors situation in Bahrain
"India is closely monitoring the evolving situation in Bahrain. I am in constant touch with our Ambassador and have asked him to stay closely in touch with the Indian community," Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed said while responding to a query regarding the safety of Indians in Bahrain on Monday.
Protests in Bahrain were initially aimed at achieving greater political freedom and equality for the Shia population, and expanded to a call to end the monarchy following a deadly night raid on 17th February against protesters.
Ahamed said "the Indian community should follow the advice of our Embassy in Bahrain, which is to keep a low profile, stay indoors and to avoid all non-essential travel within the country."
