Ramesh on demolition of Adarsh Housing Society

Ramesh on side of demolition of Adarsh Housing Society building:Environment Ministry has recommended demolition of tainted Adarsh Housing Society building for flouting Coastal Regulation Zone Rules 1991. The Ministry has also rejected the option of partial demolition of the building or government take over. In its reports the Ministry said that partial demolition or government take over would send a wrong message.Adarsh Housing Society violated the spirit of Coastal Regulation Zone norms, said Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh in final order on the controversial society.Ramesh said, it is immaterial whether the Adarsh Society was aware of requirement to seek clearance under Coastal Regulation Zone rules. Ignorance of law can never be an excuse for non-compliance.Environment Ministry's final order on Adarsh Housing Society said the "unauthorised structure" should be removed and the area restored to its original condition within three months. The Environment Ministry had issued a show-cause notice to the society on 12th November 2010 asking why the 31-storey building should not be demolished for “violating” environmental norms. The Ministry has received a written reply on Monday, in which the society demanded an immediate end to proceeding against it, insisting that it had got all the required clearances.
