Robert Mugabe to meet Army Chief Moyo today

Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe will meet the country's Army Chief Major General Sibusiso Moyo today amid intense pressure for the President to step down.

State media said, mediation will be led by a Catholic priest. 93-year old Mugabe has largely been confined to his house since the Army took over on Wednesday. The governing Zanu-PF party is also meeting to discuss whether to dismiss their founder and long-term leader.

The Army intervened after Mr Mugabe fired his deputy Emmerson Mnangagwa. Mr Mnangagwa's dismissal made Mr Mugabe's wife Grace the front runner to become the next President.

Mr Mugabe remains in office but now faces overwhelming opposition from the generals, much of the public and from within ZANU-PF, the once loyal party now calling for his exit.
Mr Mugabe has led Zimbabwe since independence from Britain in 1980.
