Israeli police arrest family of Jerusalem assailant in raids

Israeli police raided East Jerusalem early Monday. The operations followed an attack in which four people were killed when a resident of the Palestinian neighborhood plowed his truck into the Armon Hanatziv Promenade on Sunday, Haaretz daily reported. Five of the attacker’s relatives were among those detained, all from the Jabel Mukaber neighborhood of East Jerusalem, according to police spokeswoman Luba Samri. Police also barred the assailant’s family from putting up a traditional Muslim mourning tent to receive visitors paying condolence calls. Palestinian media say 20 people were detained during Israeli raids on Monday in several West Bank cities.
Moscow condemns the terrorist attack carried out in Jerusalem on January 8, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Monday. A Palestinian rammed his truck into a group of military servicemen and civilians near the Armon Hanatziv Promenade on Sunday, killing four people and injuring 17, TASS said. The attacker, a resident of East Jerusalem, was shot dead. “We strongly condemn this terror attack, no matter what was the reason for it,” the ministry’s statement reads. “This kind of violence heightens tensions concerning the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and disrupts the world community’s attempts aimed at ensuring sustainable peace talks.”

Suicide truck hits Egypt security post in Sinai

A suicide bomber driving a garbage truck packed with explosives rammed his vehicle into an Egyptian security checkpoint outside a police building in northern Sinai on Monday, killing at least 10 people and wounding 22, officials said. According to security and medical officials, the attack in the city of el-Arish in the Sinai Peninsula was followed by smaller explosions as militants wearing black masks fired rocket-propelled grenades at the troops around the checkpoint. Three floors of the police building were blown out, the officials said. There were unconfirmed reports that a number of security personnel were seized and abducted by the gunmen. No group immediately claimed responsibility for Monday’s attack, which bore all the hallmarks of Egypt’s Islamic State affiliate.

Babita won’t be able to play but she will be present to support her teammates.”
Meanwhile, the bout between Mausam Khatri and Krishna in 97kg and bout between Amit Dhankar and Pankaj Rana in the 70kg weight category are expected to be quite interesting. Geeta will face national champion Manju while Punjab will be relying on their star player World champion Vladimir (57kg) and Odunayo (53kg).
Punjab also suffered a setback as the two-time Olympic medallist Togrul Asgarov was ruled out due to neck injury and has been replaced by Continental Championship gold medalist Russia’ Ilyas Bekbultov.
Punjab co-owner Dharmpal said that after beating Mumbai and Delhi, we have gained confidence.
