PM says govt is fully committed for faster growth in telecom sector- Government is fully committed to sustaining the growth, creativity and enterprise in the telecom sector, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh said on Wednesday. "I am aware of some concerns of the telecom industry regarding government policies in the telecom sector. I wish to reassure industry of the Government's full commitment to sustaining growth, creativity and enterprise in this vitally important sector of our economy," he said at the inauguration of India Telecom 2011 in New Delhi today.The growth and success of the Indian telecommunications sector has been driven by policy initiatives taken by the Government at various points of time, Dr. Singh said.The National Telecom Policy 1994 and the National Telecom Policy 1999 were two major policy initiatives of this kind, he added.To help the country realise its potential fully in the telecom sector, the Government is working on the National Telecom Policy 2011, the Prime Minister said."I am convinced that in Kapil Sibal, the Government and the telecom industry has a leader who is going to make the future happen. I urge industry to look ahead and work towards giving a new momentum and energy to the development and spread of telecom in the country," he said. The National Telecom Policy 2011 will lay special emphasis on providing affordable and quality telecom services in rural and remote areas, the Prime Minister said. "I am sure that the policy will help us in achieving our goal of rapid growth, whose benefits are shared by each and every citizen of our vast country," Dr. Singh said.Medi agences
