5.5 magnitude quake rattled the Hindu Kush

Mild tremors rock North India; no damage reported

A moderate earthquake rocked Kashmir Valley, Punjab and Haryana today. But there are no reports of any loss of life or damage to property. People scrampled out of their homes in panic in the Valley as the quake, lasting a few seconds, struck at 1729 hours. Mild tremors were also felt in many parts of Punjab, Haryana and the Union Territory of Chandigarh.

The epicentre of the quake was in southern Badakhshan province of Afghanistan, 280 kilometres northeast of capital of Kabul. The 5.5 magnitude quake rattled the Hindu Kush region of fghanistan. The earthquake was felt in neighbouring Afghan provinces and created slight tremors in Pakistan's capital, Islamabad.
